Eyasu Telayneh

Born 1993, Bahir Bar, Ethiopia
Lives and works in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
His interest for art began while assisting his brother with art homework assignments, which were much appreciated by his brother’s teachers. Eyasu was strongly encouraged by the positive reaction of his brother’s teachers; that was his first encounter with art. He attended elementary school in Bahir Dar, where he was born and raised. Despite gaining good grades in mathematics and physics, he was not inclined to follow a scientific profession; but rather focused on being an artist. Subsequently, after graduating from Bahir Dar Academy Preparatory School, he joined the Addis Ababa University School of Fine Art and Design. Since graduating from the Painting Department of Ale School of Fine Art and Design in 2017, he has been working as a multi-disciplinary full-time studio artist.
Telayneh’s practice reflects his interest in mathematics and physics, with strong emphasis on geometry, form and colour synthesis as a way of building up a picture plane and making sense of reality which is often at odds with perfection.
