Sejiro Avoseh
Born 1990, Lagos, Nigeria
Lives and works in Lagos, Nigeria
Having completed a Diploma In Painting at Lagos State Polytechnic, Lagos Nigeria in 2013, has been practising professionally and exhibiting in Nigeria and internationally.
“My work is primarily autobiographical and painting with collage is an opportune medium to reflect my nomadic process. On my journey, I exploit found materials such as newspaper and magazine cut outs to create images. The selected and collected images are fragments of my experiences, I cut and tear them off from their original use and find new meaning in my visual vocabulary.
The resulting surface contains abstract figures, leaning towards adjectives such as grotesque and dystopic. I develop distorted forms, as they are not inspired by an atomic correctness but rather as poetic renderings. They are fragments of memories, surreal moments of my often-dramatic perceptions.” Recent exhibitions include: Young contemporaries Exhibition, National Museum, Lagos. January 2020, FNB Art Joburg Art fair, Johannesburg South Africa. October 2019, “When We Are Not What We Are” solo, RELE Gallery Lagos Nigeria.
